There might be one more benefit of using forum. Registered users could vote on different topics. I find voting process here on newsgroup very inefficient. Is it possible to make (or find existing implementation), using forum, some kind of automated mail spam to all users, and see the results?
It would really show what community wants, how much people are active, what they think ...
