The whole discussion has unnecessarily been derailed on one aspect, and
most likely not the most important.
We need to reduce the distribution size, e.g. not distribute binaries
for all OSs. This will slash download size much more than any compressor.
We need to use a faster site.
Changing the compressor is a distant third... yet everybody's latched on
that.
