I just disagree. It's not complicated for what it does. It simply sets out to solve a number of situations, and it solves them in pretty much as many words as the English description thereof.

Maybe it isn't complicated per your definition, but it's complicated
enough that it has a bug for a prominent use case.

Complication is not necessarily the reason for bugs. Your one-liner had a bug.
