Per, I am very interested in this project and am glad to see it is out now. I am most interested in the internal protocol and would like to see if we can combine it with some other projects to make it into something of incredible utility.
On the Windows side of the world, they have PSKCORE.DLL and people build stuff on it. On Linux, we have 3 or 4 indepoendent implementations of the modems, and just as many UIs. I propose that we build instead a TCP protocol for connecting the modems to the front ends, either GUIs or programs like PSKMail. From what I understand, PSKMail uses gMFSK as the "modem"? I did a project with gmfsk 0.6 to make it into a remote digimode server, using a TCP protocol I designed for passing control status, and data. I wrote a Java applet client and a cellphone GPRS client for it. I haven't moved it to 0.7 yet. I have the source for the applet in Java at http://wa5znu.org/rpsk but didn't publish the gMFSK mods yet. Also on the Windows side, the AGPWE and PSKSRV and UIVIEW all use port 3131 to let them run APRS over various backends, with the modem software doing the transport (as gMFSK is doing here) and the UI program doing the APRS work. If we can get something compatible in the Linux world going using port 3131, perhaps we can get the same kind of combinations going, using your software, or Xastir and having it talk to gMFSK. Also, my ideas for status and control would make remote digimodes a reality, with gMFSK as the server, and then we can spread the protocol out from there. Leigh.
