Yes I agree that we are seeing a kind of free for all in the digital sub bands right now with all the new modes and submodes contained within. At times I can't tell if a weak signal is 500/16 or 500/8 on Olivia and at times I miss a QSO while wasting time trying to decode at the proper bandwidth and number of tones.

I answer allot of CQ's with someone running Olivia 1000/32 but the 1000/32 is to slow for me and takes up to much space on the waterfall when we have multiple QSO's ongoing. I ALWAYS call CQ on Olivia in 500/8 because I find that sub mode to be best for speed versus robustness during QRN and QSB.

I haven't called CQ on Contestia or RTTYM yet because I don't know what the standardized bandwidth versus tones is yet. I think I saw someone post that he's using 500/16 on Contestia. In my MixW v2.16b8 Contestia and RTTYM are defaulted at 250/8.

We pretty much have the Olivia sub bands decided but where do we operate Contestia and RTTYM? Same frequencies as Olivia?

Subject: [mixw] digital modes

Dosen"t any one else find all these digital modes frustating and
counter productive ? I am trying to copy a station on 14.107 at this
moment and I cant identify what type of signal it is..width seem
obvious, but how many tones ? and which mode ? in order for
communication to be effective and helpfull it must be standardized so
that anyone who tunes across it knows right away what it is. The
current "hodge poge" just leads to confusion, think about it !
