Thanks.  That's helpful.  Like I said, this happens to be an area in
which I'm particularly interested.

Actually, I'm aware of the G4GUO's work. Is there a group or a website
that discusses people's real-world experience with this protocol? I was
under the impression that it needed a pretty high signal to noise ration
to make it work well.

I'm also aware of ANDVT.

So, yes, you're quite right: There ARE at least two examples of digital
voice in 3KHz on HF.

As I didn't state my original point well, let me try again: Doing
digital voice on HF in 3KHz bandwidth is tough. Forcing us to START
experimenting with digital voice on HF in a 3KHz restricted bandwidth is
a pretty steep wall to climb.  Sort of like starting out learning how to
walk by running.

I personally have no HF digital experience. But I know a bit about both
data compression and digital communications protocols.  As a
software/firmware guy, I think this area has a lot of promise if it's
not stifled by overly restrictive regulation.
