Dear Johnne, W1YB

General hints about sources:

-1) I suggest a research using GOOGLE using entries for digital modes like
PSK31, MFSK16, Olivia, Hellschreiber, etc.

-2) Another usefull alternative is to search thru GOOGLE about softwares to
operate digital modes with the use of PC and its Sound Card. Examples of such
softwares are MIxW, Multipsk, etc. Some like Multipsk are free but even the
ones for sale, like MixW, provide free trial periods of its software.

-3) Looking at more specific discussion groups (and there files of older
messages) in the WEB. In YAHOO groups there are some specific about the use of
particular modes or softwares. Some examples of the names of such groups:
[Hellschreiber], [MFSK], [mixw], [MixWhelp], [ZAKANAKA] and so on.

-4) Outside the Yahoo groups there is the "THE OFFICIAL PSK31 WWV HOME PAGE"
with an extensive explanations of theory, softwares, history, etc. There is
also a link to a discussion group specifically for this mode.

My sugestions how to begin:

I suggest to begin with the PSK31 mode which uses only a very narrow bandwidth
, and with which, using only a low power of about only 20 watt, under good
ionospheric conditions , you can contact even your antipodes! HINTS about
theory, practical set ups, software and INTERFACING the PC&Sound Card, etc to
your tranceiver you can find ....
--- in THE OFFICIAL PSK31 WWV HOMEPAGE already mentioned above
     http://aintel.bi.ehu.es/psk31.html.
--- in the MixWhelp files which can be downloade free from
     http://www.nvbb.net/~jaffejim/downloads.htm

Subject: [digitalradio] Is thre a digital radio group, reflector, etc.
somewhere?

I've been QRT for 25 years and I am interested in some of the new
digital modes. I was just basically a CW ragchewer in the past and
I'd like to do some digital ragchewing in the newer modes. I was
hoping this group could give me some technical 'Elmer-ing', but it
  seems not.

Would anyone be willing to give me some advice off-group.

  Thanks!
