The first question that has to be asked is do you only want to transmit your status and location or do you want to have a full station that can show the location of other stations?
If you only want to transmit, then it's fairly simple. One way might be a GPS and Kenwood TH-D7A or a GPS, TinyTrack (a transmit only TNC) and HT. If you want to receive, then you'll need a TNC or a radio with the built-in TNC (such as the TH0D7A) and a computer of some kind. I think some have done it with Palms or PocketPCs. Since your plans are to work with a local group, I'd strongly suggest you contact them to get recommendations so that your setup will be compatible with theirs. Some groups may run voice/data on a single channel and may require a special setup rather then generic APRS. The needs of the group will also determine if you need transmit only or transmit/receive capability. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
