My problem with the SCS Pactor "modem" and any sole source hardware/software is just as Bill says...what if the company decides to quit selling their product or changes it and will not allow anyone to keep on making it.
Its this was...if SCS stops making the Pactor hardware and selling the software and will not license anyone else to make the hardware and software, then the mode cannot expand and dies. The same with WinLink...and I'm not picking on these two "businesses" just pointing out why I don't like to use proprietary/sole source hardware and software. 73, Walt/K5YFW -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, September 15, 2006 5:31 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [digitalradio] Re: ARQ sound card modes - SCS TNC > > Look at this way: An SCS TNC _IS_ COTS hardware. > > > But it also has another plus, support. The only real issue with SCS is that it's a single source product. If, heaven forbid, things went bad for the company - what happens then? 73 Bill Need a Digital mode QSO?
