John,

With LCD monitors, there is only one specific "native" resolution. Any
other resolution is blurry, not as tack sharp, so you must insure you
have drivers for that resolution in order to have acceptable clarity
with text, etc.

My new 22" Samsung monitor has 1680 x 1050 since it is a widescreen
format. The text and icons, etc., appear to be maybe even a bit sharper
and easier to read than with my 1024 x 768 resolution that I had with my
19" monitor. The size of the fonts and text are similar in size to the
19" with the lower resolution, but you have a lot more horizontal real
estate to work with. The vertical space I find to not be quite as
important since a major factor with working with documents is to be able
to read across without frequent scrolling and up and down scrolling is
needed much less than if you had to scroll left and right.
