It appears to me that the first mistake is leaving 160 how it is today. I
have been saying for 20 years that it is just plain nuts to mix SSB and CW
across the band. There is no reason that the SSB signals (and other
wideband stuff) cant be put up at the top half of the band, much like most
of the other bands were. Put the 500 KHZ signals in the area between the
bottom and top. It is real irritating to a CW op to be on 18.020 or even
less, and have someone pop up there and intefere with a SSB signal or with a
digital that just comes on and starts talking on top of them. Just not
necessary in todays operational capability.

Ditto 80 meters. We do NOT need 500 khz signals down amongst the CW/PSK
signals- and those two should be kept apart too. Many of us use broad band
receive to listen to the WHOLE PSK portion of the bands, because we have
software such as WINWARBLER which allows us to use the SSB filters and copy
dozens of PSK signals all at the same time. Most, I believe, also listen to
the band on speakers or earphones, and it is quite disturbing to hear CW in
the middle of the PSK signals, let alone find some of them QRMing those PSK
signals.

Ditto 20 and any other band which is going to allow 500 KHZ signals all the
way to the bottom. Just not necessary to mix them with PSK or CW.

The FCC and the ARRL touted over and over that no one would loose any
capability. BALONEY! CW ops certainly have lost the ability of being left
alone in some small portion of the bands, and PSK has even lost more,
because the SSB ops are now gong to move down , causing wider signals to
also move down, and compressing PSK into what use to be CW playgrounds.
Woopie - we have more SSB bandwidth to play in. Id like to see some of
those ops go up to the top of the band and use an area that is virtually
bare of signals much of the time - especially on 160.

I know we are now even more under the thumb of the FCC as far as operational
parameters, but that doesnt mean we should not attempt to keep modes apart
so as to not intefere with each other. CW ops can go anywhere, but they
shouldnt. Do unto others...........
