Probably because the majority of us have used only the sound cards that have
come with the computers, because we have been happy with, and satisified by
them. I have used at least a half dozen different computers in the shack since
I started with them around 1992, and have had no complaints of sounds at all.
Everything I have asked them to do, they have done. I run PSK, and AFSK
mostly, but have dabbled in several other modes as well. I even, early on, ran
audio driven CW from a sound card thru the mic jack of the rig and other than
people telling me I seemed to have an "audio" on my signal, it worked well.
My present computer, a 2.2 gig cp, is now almost three years old and holding up
well. I built it from new parts (along with a second family computer exactly
the same), and it has a built in sound card, with a separate video board which
I feel is much more important, since I do some photography work with them both
- plus have dual monitors here on the ham computer. Most store-bought
computers did not have that capability early on, and I also needed two
com-ports, which you seldom, if ever find now. I have a number of Creative
sound boards, removed from commercial equipment, but have never found the need
for them here.

Subject: [digitalradio] Re: Digital Sound Cards -- What IS the best?
I've asked this question on several forums, and there seems to be no concise
answer. My computer has the integrated "on board" sound, which I have used
successfully to decode digital modes of most
