A somewhat off the current chain of thought...but what burns up the finals in your transceiver with a high crest factor mode? Is it the peak power or average power?
In SSB I can have a peak power of 100 watts output over an epoch but the average power over an epoch is maybe 10-15 watts and the ALC indicator barely "moves". Walt/K5YFW
