NOPE - contesters are a very small minority of operators. You wouldnt think
it, on contest weekends, because they really do tend to take over. I think
I have sent logs in for one contest in the past 22 years. Most of the time,
I am in there looking at contest stations, just trying to find new
countries/modes/bands, and will work a handfull to get new ones that way.
Sometimes I hear a station I dont need, call him once, and if he doesnt come
back, its his loss not mine - since I dont need the point - he does!
I started off my ham contesting career the first year as a Novice, during
the ROUND UP, and won it for my section. I then was overseas for the next
20 plus years and entered and won several over there. Some of the countries
were no sweat, but even in Hong Kong I had competion. The best win of all
though was the 40 meter SSB contest in England in 1980 ARRL test. Working
split is an all "other" game.
