Hi Walt, Maybe you haven't seen the way hams have adapted ALE to our own purposes... you can call CQ with it... in fact, there are 4 different types of CQ. :)
We also have adapted ALE to do APRS-like stuff. But we call it ALE-GPR. The ALE protocol, especially with what you can do with AMD, is flexible.
