Hi Rick,

Not a dumb question but perhaps a dumb answer...yes and no. It 
certainly is not meant for passing more than the most basic 
information -- call, reports, grid and 73. In JT6M and FSK441 modes  
messages can contain any arbitrary text up to 28 characters.
The supported character set is 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A B C D E F G H I 
J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z . , / # ? $ plus the space 
character. Note the 28 character limitation per message. So you can 
send abit more than the basics but not much more. In the JT65 modes 
(A,B and C) the slowness would make watching a message develop be 
more akin to watching water evaporate. This is not to say the WSJT 
modes are not wonderful for their intent and perhaps a clever person 
could take the fsk441 or jt6m modulation scheme and make in into a 
keyboard to keyboard conversation-oriented mode. Am sure others know 
more about this than I do...
