Orrin, It's a lot of fun to work VHF during the major showers. The ionized trails will usually last long enough to get a few words in on SSB. The daily sporadics are more challenging since the reflections are much shorter and weaker. The six meter band is a good place to start and it doesn't hurt to operate during the AM peak.
