I have formed a new hfdec Yahoogroup to discuss the many different modes and systems that are applicable to HF Digital Emergency Communications, including public service events, and activities that encompass a wider region. Especially what works and what doesn't with those modes and systems and available programs, portable and mobile operation, antennas for both NVIS and longer range depending upon your goals. Anything related is fair game for discussion.
This is an open group which looks at all digital technologies that are primarily, (but they don't have to be exclusively), on the HF bands. Members are expected to be radio amateurs or are working to acquire a ham license. To insure proper identity of posters, only the first post will be moderated. The reason I am doing this is several fold: I have actually been looking for a general digital mode/system type of discussion group of this type and surprisingly I have not found any unless they have a very specific "focus" and tend to be intolerant toward any other systems or modes. Even though there is a very small subset of radio amateurs who are interested in digital modes, particularly HF digital modes, and are also interested in applying them to emergency communications, there is the possibility that there are enough of us to have a meaningful dialog. All modes and systems have their strong and weak points and my hope is that the most open minded hams are the ones who want to find out what works and what doesn't under many different conditions and locations and would also be willing to share this information. If you have an interest in this part of amateur radio, please give consideration to joining "yet another group:)" at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hfdec/ 73, Rick, KV9U
