After some further reflection on the article I am not sure many conclusions can be made from the material beyond its specific results about the modes covered. The various modes are to dissimilar in all aspects to draw any conclusions on whether PSK is better than MFSK, for instance. There must be a study somewhere, probably sponsored by the government or military, that does a direct comparison. The book on digital communications I am using, Sklar, does have charts for AWGN comparisons. Those only go so far in predicting real-world capabilities with fading, multi-path, and Doppler.
