It does not matter if you use KDE, ICEWM, Gnome, JWM or whatever window manager, as long as the X server is running and your libraries are loaded. The combination of libraries is tested on Debian based systems (mostly UBUNTU). It is possible that some libs you find in Slack are not compatible. The error messages on the console will tell you. To be able to help you we will need to know the error messages. if there are no error messages it should work.
