While myself, Sholto, and others have put a lot of time in to developing
spotting pages and sked pages to help the digital mode users find QSO
opportunities ( see http://www.obriensweb.com/sked/ or
http://www.hamspots.net/ ) I wonder if the methods behind HRDLOG NET are
perhaps the best ? HRDLOG NET integrates with the new Ham Radio Deluxe logbook
and, when enabled, it reports your status (on air, or not) and where you radio
is tuned. e.g.

2W0RUH is on air 14,230,000 USB

 K3UK is on air 14,076,000 TS-2000

In addition, you can also view a person's log book and see who they may have
just worked. e.g

Station Start Time Band Mode RSTs RSTr
        KN4SA PA0LEG 2009-04-24 05:04 40m SSB 59 59
        KN4SA AL7DB 2009-04-24 04:36 40m SSB 58 58
        KN4SA YU1QW 2009-04-22 04:25 40m CW 559 579

The list of who is on air is via call districts and can easily be viewed at a
glance. There are not a lot of on-air stations at this moment but it seems to
me that this may be the way to go in the future. Automatically posting where
you are monitoring, no need to log on to a web page and announce your QRG.
Hrdlog net is interfaced with Facebook, so you also use Facebook for buidling
"friends" that you can develop into a special list . You can then view your
"friends list" in hrdlog net and see if they are on air, and where

.eg.

             Friends list
                Frequency Mode Status
        KC8NZJ 144,200,000 CURRENT OPERATING FREQUENCY
        KC2SCY 14,247,999
