Cygwin implements a *POSIX* compatibility layer on top of the win32 API, which requires dynamic linking to the cygwin1.dll library, but there is a compiler switch to disable this (-mno-cygwin). MinGW is a port of GCC to win32 with some headers and import libraries for the win32 API, plus better C99 support. Otherwise, it uses the MS runtime and is basically as "native" as it gets. -- 73, Stelios, M0GLD.
