Engineers in
Carrollton TX. Start
is
ASAP & will last for 3
MONTHS. We filled 2 of
these positions already and
now the manager has 3 more openings.
Must
have experience with clustering. Local candidates strongly preferred.
We
are actively seeking to fill a UNIX (AIX) Server Engineer position.
In
this role, you will provide managed services server based engineering
support
for design and implementation of customer networks. You will focus
primarily
on UNIX servers and implementations. You will review and analyze
customer
server performance on a per project basis to identify potential
opportunities
for improving the availability and performance of
customer
networks.
You will develop strategies for improving server
support activities and
work with operational teams to drive process
improvements; utilize ITIL
processes in support of all Engineering
activities; mentor members of the
NS staff on best practices for
incident/problem management, equipment and
carrier coordination; and support
customer networking projects and
regularly make customer presentations
regarding engineering projects and
potential improvements or technology
upgrade opportunities.
Other responsibilities include: leading large
scale server architecture
design projects and audits; providing design
drawings and documentation
including topology maps, bill of materials, ROI’s
and presentations as
required in support of projects; providing advanced
remote network support
and guidance on complex configuration, application and
administrative
problems; meeting with current and potential vendors and
carriers to
analyze product and service opportunities and to negotiating
pricing;
providing 3rd level escalation support for complex issues and
assists
problem management activities to find root causes and define
corrective
actions; developing best practice metrics and processes for
server
engineering and operations in key performance areas such as up time
and
utilization initiatives, etc.
Experience:
• 2-4 years
experience years experience providing server (hardware and
software)
operations support in a network of 2,000 nodes or more,
supporting AIX,
Windows, SUN servers.
• 2 or more years working experience in AIX or SUN
preferred.
• Understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, WINS, HTTP, SSH
and SSL
deployments.
• Understanding of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF,
EIGRP, RIP, IPX, etc) and
VPNs.
Job Skills:
• Strong knowledge of
server management and process methodologies and
practices.
• Excellent
communication (oral, listening, and writing) skills.
• Strong problem
solving, time management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to interact
with inside and outside IT services infrastructure.
• General knowledge of
applications management processes and methodologies.
• Excellent customer
interaction skills to the IT Management level.
• Familiarity with ticket
tracking technologies a strong plus.
• Working knowledge of remote management
tools.
