It starts with the process team writing the Functional Specifications, which is then converted to a Technical Design Document by the Development Team. The actual coding starts after that. It goes through various stages of sign off, walk through, testing and quality assurance before the development work is moved to production. The consultants should be in a position to understand the functional specifications, suggest any design changes/improvements, then develop the Technical Design Documents, do the actual development using the required tools (XI/ABAP/Java/Workflow etc.), unit test the code, debug when there is any problem.
