Routine DBA Tasks
* Checking Status of All Your Instances
• Checking an Instance's Alert Log File
• Examining Tablespace Usage and Projections
• Checking Tablespaces for Free Space Deficits
• Reviewing Schema Object Extent Allocations
• Checking the Level of Tablespace Fragmentation
• Checking the Overall Health of a Database
• Monitoring SQL Currently in the Shared Pool
• Determining Resource-Intensive Sessions
• Monitoring and Killing User Sessions
• Creating, Altering, and Managing Database Objects
*Capabilities of the candidate:
*Review of existing MySQL Infrastructure to suggest on up gradation to
newer versions, consolidation (of databases & servers) & standardization.
• Review and suggest latest patches including Critical Patch Updates (CPUs)
periodically released by MySQL .
• Database audit, health check & review. Coming up with routine database
maintenance activity list and checklist to keep the database in a healthy
state and identify the symptoms of potential issues at an early stage.
• Identifying performance bottleneck areas & tuning those areas.
• Evaluating disaster recovery strategy & periodic testing of these
strategies.
• Troubleshooting & coordinating with MySQL support for bugs and unresolved
issues.
• Create Documentation of the infrastructure.
• Analyze usage/growth of database and provide capacity planning report.
• Evaluate the features of the product and train development team to use
those features.
• Coming up with step-by-step instructions for periodic regular work like
cloning/refreshing.
- Experience in installing and administering MySQL 4.x and 5.x databases
including setting up replication between master and multiple slaves
- Working as a Senior DBA supporting Replication ( merge, transactional
and log shipping), Sybase ASE and Sybase Replication consisting of Sybase
ASE and Sybase Replication Servers, MySQL 4.x and MySQL 5.x
- Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining the MySQL
servers and setting up replication for replicating the production databases
Making sure that all the systems are up and running 24 hours a day 7 days a
week (provided with remote connection from home).
