Position: UNIX ENGINEER/ELSEVIER.
Location: Providence NJ


UNIX Engineer
As a Unix engineer, you take responsibility for the delivery of numerous
Unix based servers with focus on continuous operations, project and change
management within the Cloud.
The main goal is to minimize the amount of unplanned downtime within the
production environment, execute the implementation/optimization of the Unix
infrastructure and to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate is someone who wants to work with a company that
enables and encourages growth, and relies on going above and beyond to meet
the business needs. The main motivation should be someone who loves
technology and wants to continue to grow in their skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Managing Unix Servers in a Cloud based infrastructure.
• Optimizing system architecture based on cost and other factors
• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and off hour releases.
• Knowledge of storage structures and systems including SAN and NAS.
• Ability to comprehend, diagnose and analyze problems of a complex nature
quickly, make judgment decisions and recommendations as to their solution.
• Knowledge of Cloud concepts, Web Services and APIs
• Automate tasks through scripting, tools and technology to simplify system
management and troubleshooting techniques.
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager
Required Skills and Experience
• 5+ years of hands-on Unix systems administration and production
infrastructure engineering experience, preferably with experience in a
high-transaction, high-availability 24x7 environment.
• Experience with Redhat Linux or CentOS a strong plus
• Experience with Oracle Endeca a strong plus
• Basic understanding of the SQL query language
• Excellent knowledge of Internet technologies such as TCP/IP, Firewalls,
Routing/Switching, Application Protocols and F5 proxies.
• Strong troubleshooting, organizational, documentation, and customer
service skills
• Experience with Rackspace Cloud Sites and Rackspace Cloud Servers a plus
• Experience with managing load-balanced cloud server instances for both
application and database servers
• Experience in designing and supporting Cloud Infrastructure and
implementing/managing cloud computing environments from providers such as
Amazon, Internap and Rackspace
• Experience in an enterprise datacenter environment a plus
