I'm not sure if it's useless here. Dok said:

I think he was speaking about the dfb_software_[soft|hard]ware_lock()
functions, not dfb_surfacemanager_lock() which is what you are using.
I might be wrong but I think the call to
dfb_surfacemanager_assure_system() is needed or the the code should be
changed to use dfb_surface_[soft|hard]ware_lock() instead.
