I don't like the name of the command-line option you suggest. "--no-loading" is not very intuitive but I can't think of a better name right now. Perhaps someone else has a good alternative? If we go for this change, the message should probably be supressed by default in slide-show mode. Of course we'd then also need a way to enable it from the command-line. I also see a problem with the implementation you suggest in your patch. If the message "Loading..." is not shown, the filename as displayed on top of the screen changes to the next file while the old image/video is still being displayed. The correct way to implement this would be not to change the display until the new image has been loaded.
