Hi,

I'm interested in porting directfb so that it can be used on OS's other
than Linux, so far the main stumbling block that I can see is directfb's
dependancy on the Linux framebuffer device, does anyone have any pointers
on how I could go about getting around this ?

I see potential for using directfb on many platforms other than Linux,
such as NewOS, Atheos, Syllable etc.

My real reason for asking this is that I am currently developing an OS based
on the OSKit. I plan on the operating system being natively graphical. After
looking around at different graphics systems I feel that directfb is by
far the best for what I have in mind.

Since my OS will not be supporting unix style device access semantics, and
is certainly not Linux based, then directfb's use of the Linux framebuffer
device is problematic.

I am sure that, if it could be ported away from Linux, then directfb's
functionality could benefit many other projects also.

Any help or advice would be greatly welcome.

Happy Hacking,

Joel.
