I've been wanting for quite a while to know how to hack an NVidia driver. The problem is that I know nothing at all about 3d (or 2d) accelerators or reverse engineering techniques, and I only know a little about Intel assembly (although I know the basic, general ideas of assembly languages), and my C is pretty mediocre. I do have some documentation on the G400 and Voodoo3 that I haven't tackled yet. I'm willing to learn this stuff (in fact, I've been trying to find an excuse for some time to force myself to learn it), but I just don't know where to start. Any advice on getting started? Also, I was wondering, just out of curiosity, if there is anything around on the net that would give me a history of different NVidia driver projects. For instance, I'd like to know how the XFree86 driver(s) and the DirectFB driver came about. Were they based on the SDK? > I attached other stuff I found, most important a GeForce header file nvxref.h, > like nv4ref.h, but far more complete with all class definitions and information > about the PRAMIN space which is responsible for instantiation of these classes. In that sentence are a few of the terms I'd like to know. I've heard classes mentioned before in reference to NVidia; is this some special meaning of "class"? Not the OO idea of class, I'd assume. I'd also like to know about what PRAMIN is. > I think it's sufficient enough to write a DirectFB driver that can compete > with the Matrox driver, good luck!
