Hi,

I was thinking about movie playing and A-V sync issues the other day, and
I had an idea. I wanted to check with you guys to see if it is possible.

The A-V sync issue is basically that the audio clock and the video clock
aren't going at exactly the same rate, so that they drift apart. So I
was thinking, why don't we fiddle with the video timings in a feedback
loop in order to advance or retard the frame rate by just a little bit so
that the A-V stays in sync. That way there is no need to insert or
remove frames to keep the movie in sync, which causes judder.

Is it possible to do that using DirectFB, or even in the kernel if needs
be? If you are only fiddling with the timings a little bit, it shouldn't
mess up the display at all. Where is the code that sets the display
timings for the Matrox CRTC2? I had a quick look and couldn't find it.

Let me know if I'm crazy.

Thanks.
