Works really good, but there's a failing assertion sometimes.

I don't think it has something to do with the Xv extension. Are you using Xfree repository? I don't have that problem with Xorg.
It's cool that the layer caps are supported via XAtoms ;)
What about adding triple buffering, too?
Too much memory consuming, according to me.
