yes, I triet to strace it and I did not get very far.

it's the only environment I've used so far

I've tried that already and nothing seems to change.
in general this is what happens: the screen becomes blue (I can see the 
drop-shaped cursor)
than it blinks and "Killed" appears for a little bit, than the screen becomes 
grey and finally
crashes. I discovered that if I click on the grey screen before the crash, the 
screen becomes
black and the crash message does not appear, but I cannot stop the appl.
