Update; Mr Korth emailed me today, but unfortunately the plugin he wrote was contract work and he neither had it (now) or could share it with me if he did. However, he gave me a few pointers as to what output-plugins I could use as a starting point for developing a new one (particularly the sdl- and x11-plugins included in the VLC source).
