We had to recompile DirectFB 0.9.24 for the Espresso board in a project here in Brazil, since Fusion isn't enabled on ST's RPM package by default. But there were no surprises, it just worked fine. I've even compiled it nativelly with gcc 3.4.3, with parameters "--enable-multi --enable-video4linux2 --disable-sdl --with-gfxdrivers=none".
