Under my limited understanding, I think you are right .. there is bug in
the touchpad driver. Mayhbe when the touchpad fallback to the ps2
emulation output, it works..

It is not vesa couldn't change mode, as I remeber I ask the similar
question long time ago with intel i830 laptop output mode change.
It seem to be the video bios and the LCD output control driver problem.

I would like to see that also, but the video out control seem to be my
problem. I simply don't understand.
