The feature could be implemented but only up to a point since there are alignment issues which I think would limit its accuracy, and hence its usefulness. Shame there isn't a capability flag for it though -- perhaps it's supposed to be mandatory?
What we could really do with is a test suite for gfxdrivers. It should check that all the blitting operations do what they're supposed to, checking all pixel formats, blending, clipping etc. reading back pixel data to check the results. Checking layer functions would be more tricky though and would probably need some manual checking. I don't imagine anyone has the time to look at any of this though! M.
