Dear All, The DirectFB email lists seem to be suffering from duplicate messages. (I'm subscribed to the digests. Maybe non-digest readers are not affected. Can someone confirm?)
I believe that the problem occurs if you send a message to BOTH the dev and the users lists. You'll notice that I am sending this message to both lists, and if my theory is right it should appear twice on each list. Here's my theory: - My mail server sends one copy of the message to directdb-dev. It reaches mailman, which looks at the To: line and sees that the message is addressed to both lists, so it sends it to both lists. - My mail server sends a second copy to directfb-users. It reaches mailman, which looks at the To: line and sees that the message is addressed to both lists, so it sends it to both lists. So both lists end up with two copies. (If we had 3 lists we'd get 9!) I am not sure if there is some sort of tweaking that could be done to the MTA / mailman configuration to avoid this. Google finds lots of talk about mailman and duplicate messages, but I can't see anything that exactly aligns with this problem. However, I would like to encourage readers to avoid sending messages to both lists. Most questions fall into either the "users" or the "dev" category; if you're not sure which list, why not post to one and then try the other if you don't get a reply? I suspect that most of the people who are likely to answer are subscribed to both. Regards, Phil. _______________________________________________ directfb-dev mailing list [email protected] http://mail.directfb.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/directfb-dev
