Dear Friends,
I have successfully downloaded the following files and installed in my
system.
1) gtk+-directfb-1.3.11.tar.gz
2) DirectFB-0.9.9.tar.gz
3) Pango, awk etc. etc.
I am having the Intel 810 video chipset with 8MB Video RAM support. As there
is no specific frame buffer driver for this chip, I enabled the Frame buffer
support and enabled the VESA Frame buffer and VGA16. I have compiled my
kernel version 2.4.4 and tried testing the application.
I copied the fb.modes available from the above mentioned tar files to the
/etc/fb.modes. My monitor is a 15" and supports high frequency and
1024x1024 max resolution.
To my surprise when I ran the test/demo application provided with the
GTK+FB, I showed me the errors as usual, like the following ( I have not
provided the exact out put)
...
...
no compatible modes available in tht /etc/fb.modes and also the current mode
is not suitable ... and it is
rgb 6/6/6/ (4 bit) 640x480
...
The above problem is also explained in the FAQ in the www.direcfb.org, so I
tried putting the correct mode in top of the fb.mode files, I selected the
resolution 800x600 with 16bit colors, but this time also it reported the
same error.
Then I tried using the fbset utility for testing the framebuffer. When I
tried the fbset utility it was showing the current mode details correctly,
but it is just unable to switch to any mode, it is giving an IOCTL error
like FBPUT_VSCREENINFO ..
Note: In the kernel booting I am able to select the text console in the boot
time like 80x60 .. etc.. And the kernel is also switching to the mode
correctly, but when it is showing the logo it reverts back to 80x30, I don't
know why it is happening.
What I want to know is, Will the GTK+FB works with VESA, and is VESA
Framebuffer can really switch the modes. Please help me with the right
answer.
Waiting for your valuable response
