I probably would have figured that out - except that no XDirectFB binary existed
there, most likely because I had compiled nothing.

As I went back over this message, I suddenly realized the problem might simply be that
I never got module 'xc' from xfree.org, like README said, and tried to use
xdirectfb-1.6.4 instead.
So if you think that's definitely the problem, don't bother reading my attempt to
install using the wrong archive/module/blob/whatever with XDirectFB-1.0-rc1.

 - Before anyone asks, yes I have DirectFB-0.9.10 installed.
 - I had XDirectFB-1.0-rc1 and xdirectfb-1.6.4 (from 'ports') decompressed and all
that.
 - After doing everything else except maybe the first step, I did 'make World' and
'make install' which both crashed and burned with error 2, after quickly running by
several missing directories (like doc, fonts, and nls). I did 'make -i ....' to tell
make to work regardless of errors... which created more errors and no binaries.

 * When I think about it, was I even supposed to get xdirectfb-1.6.4 from the 'ports'
directory of the downloads are on the DirectFB website?

------------
As I mess around at xfree.org, could someone PLEASE tell me how to get the module XC
off of there, or just somewhere? I can't find _anything_ except a CVS mess and that
doesn't help me much - I have to do all my Internet junk on a Windoze box, so I can't
do much on CVS... I never use it anyway...
