i have a debian woody base system. first i get the Xfree sources files (3 files) and untarball all X420src-1.tgz X420src-2.tgz X420src-3.tgz
second i untarball the XDirectFB-1.0-rc2.tar.gz and make the change like in the README file then "make World" and "make install" and have the error you've seen before.
