IMO the upcoming 0.9.14 release is a huge step forward since it makes
DirectFB independent of the Linux frame buffer API and allows it to be
compiled on other operating systems. The multi-application core also
has improved a lot and is actually becoming useable. However the
library still lacks some important hooks to allow for a DirectFB
desktop where multiple apps not only run at the same time but also
interoperate. This is probably the area that we will concentrate on in
the future. I hope that we can implement the necessary framework
before the 1.0 release so that we can provide a stable API to build
on. I also hope that we will see more ports of DirectFB to other
graphic systems.

GTK+-DirectFB is supposed to be merged into the main GTK+ tree as soon
as GTK+-2.2 is released and should then be officially included with
the 2.4 release. However this can only happen if I (or someone else)
find the time to adapt the GTK+-2.0 based port to GTK+-2.2. There have
been a lot of changes in the GDK layer so this isn't trivial. Before
this is addressed, I want to finish pseudo-color support in the
current tree and release GTK+-DirectFB-2.0.7 with the latest changes.

I have no idea if the XFree86 people consider to include XDirectFB.

there's always stuff that needs to be done that doesn't require
high-level programming skills. For example our documentation could be
improved a lot. Especially the FAQ needs some love.

Salut, Sven
