I want to connect several monitors, keyboards and mice to a single computer to make it usable for several people. The aim is to provide an X session for each of the people, thus getting the cheapest available X terminal on the market. :) I don't need Xinerama, I don't want to glue screens together, just one monitor, keyboard, mouse per each person.
If you're just interested in doing this with plain X, you might be interested in what's written at http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/multiuser/ . It seems kinda complicated and it's very experimental, but it just might do the trick.
I want to use multihead with DirectFB too, so the question remains:
Is there any way to use /dev/input/eventN for the keyboard, and /dev/input/eventY for the mouse?
