Please have a look at configure.in, it should already have lines using pkg-config. Please do also read the instructions about building GTk+ applications available from the GTK+ site: http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gtk/gtk-compiling.html The README file I pointed you at assumes that you read and understood this.
