Some quick tests with an ES stream (can only look at CRT monitor at the moment because the Belgian GP is on and I'd get shouted at!):
df_xine -l0 file.mpv: smooth playback with interlace artifacts (high CPU load becasue not the correct layer!) df_xine -l1 file.mpv: jerky playback with lots of dropped frames with video_out: throwing away image with pts 61204 because it's too old (diff : 6520) type of errors. The picture appears to be more randomly juddery / flickery than with -s. df_xine -s -l1 file.mpv: jerky playback with lots of dropped frames with video_out: throwing away image with pts 61204 because it's too old (diff : 6520) type of errors. The picture is 'more repeatably' juddery, if that makes sense, i.e. it looks like it is playing at half speed. This looks more similar to the output from softdevice with vdr, although I was convinced that that was playing at about half speed: I'll test that again with a specific length recording. Very rough timings of the df_xine tests (i.e. it takes about 10 s to get to a certain point) show that they are all actually playing at roughly the same speed. I'll try to create a video stream of a specific length and time it properly if I have time...
