Hi!

Generally speaking the amount of overscan varies from TV Set to TV Set. There
is no fixed standard for how many pixels the image will extend beyond the edge.
For this reason it is customary to leave a safety margin when designing
interfaces for TV... eg If you're using NTCS resolution of 640x480, do all your
drawing within the bounds 10,10,630,470. By leaving the 10 pixel margin, you
can be sure the interface will be visible regardless of what TV Set the user
has.

As for changeing the overscan, I am not sure how this would be done... It would
seem to me that would be a function of the framebuffer driver. Ie either by
setting the timings in /etc/fb.modes or if your framebuffer driver supports
specific options for the overscan.

Betreff: [directfb-users] G400 overscan. how to pull back?

My picture on a G400 using DirectFB and TVout is going beyond the edges
of my TV. Not too noticable until tonight when I looked at some slides
that I made and converted to PNG. The first letter or two on left
justified text is falling off the screen.

How would I fix this? (I'm driving DirectFB with Freevo, and presenting
a Freevo demo and the above mentioned slides to a local LUG today...)

I've tried (I'm NTSC) 800x600 and 768x576... The hardware scaling seems
to absorb any "give" I try to give it.

Thanks,
-Scott
