when I play DVB video recorded with vdr with df_xine, it sets the aspect
ratio to 4:3, but "Square pixel" would be correct. Is there any way to
automatically overwrite this default setting at startup with a command
switch or something like that?

No command switch, simply press R and 1 at the same time.

I know, but I output the video via TV-Out and have no keyboard nearby.
Also it would be nice to have the right aspect ratio from the first second.

I hope the patch posted few seconds ago in the thread on the developers'
ML called "[PATCH] df_xine - judder @ different aspect ratios &
resolutions on interlaced displays" or in the archive at
http://mail.directfb.org/pipermail/directfb-dev/2005-October/000813.html
solves exactly this, please test at different resolutions (those with
the width much lower than 720, like on DELUXE
MUSIC,DELUXE;BetaDigital:12460:hC34:S19.2E:27500:1023:1024=deu:0:0:663:133:5:0

for example if you would press R and 1 in df_xine you'd see what they
broadcast for real :-) ) and aspect ratios (some 16:9 ZDF recordings),
as there are so many different on DVB, I think we basically had a
similar problem, only I also had terrible judder on TV. Please tell how
it works for you, if it autodetects the correct resolution.

I have added a new command switch (-a, --aspect) to set the default aspect ratio and a new ratio identifier (Screen) to display the video at the sceen aspect ratio.
Hope those changes will solve your problems.
