I might be wrong, but AFAIK xine-lib also incorporates ffmpeg, maybe it's just a matter of telling the xine frontend which decoding engine to use, maybe you find some info in the xine listst. On the other hand, ther is the softdevice VDR plugin which decodes with ffmpeg, you could use that, it's working near to perfect on my G400 TV-out with DirectFB.
