Hi!

Yeah, DirectFBs focus is on 2D accelleration. 3D Accelleration is provided by
GL.

However, things are not that clear cut, as it may be possible to use 3D
features of the graphics card even in 2D mode, eg:

1) The TextureTriangles function, which provides texturing of a
pre-triangulated mesh. If accellerated, this function would use 3D features of
the card.
2) Modern Graphics cards can use their Shader units to accellerate video
processing (eg accellerated MPEG decoding, or at least accellerated DCT and
ColourSpace conversions). While, AFAIK, there is currently no support for this
in any DFB Drivers or Video Providers, I expect it will soon come in the
future. Use of the shaders in this way is really also using a 3D feature in 2D
mode...

However these are details. In the broad picture, DFB is for 2D, and GL will
provide 3D.

Richie

Ok
So my 82865G card has a i830 chipset that is supported but unaccelerated
whereas cards based on the i810 chipset are supported
-and- accelerated.
So the df_dok program would be significantly affected by the "--noaccel" option
on a i810 based card. Just to make sure I understood, the kind of acceleration
we are talking about here is 2D acceleration right? It has nothing to deal with
3D acceleration (which is directFBGL business)?
