I'm using a Matrox G450 TV out sometimes when using MPlayer there's
interference on the display. It looks like broken white bands across the
entire width, about 10-20 pixels high, briefly flashing on every couple
of seconds or so, appearing at the top of the screen a few times, then
at the bottom a few times and so on. That's what it looked like last
time it was doing it anyway; I'm not sure if it's a consitent pattern.

I think it's something to do with the console, because I use framebuffer
consoles and I think I've noticed the effect sometimes get worse if
there's console output eg by not using MPlayer's -quiet option. It
doesn't do it all the time, not even on the same video files.

My directfbrc contains:

matrox-crtc2
matrox-tv-standard=pal
mode=720x576
depth=32
memcpy=mmxext
primary-layer=2
no-graphics-vt
no-vt-switching
no-vt-switch
no-vt
disable-module=linux_input

That's mostly inherited from another G450-equipped box which has no
monitor or keyboard and I needed that combination of vt options to allow
VDR to run without root access.

The other box, with the flickering, does have a keyboard and monitor on
the first head. Keyboard input is via stdin rather than DirectFB. maybe
I could use a different combination of vt options and still have things
work OK on that one, using DirectFB input if necessary? The trouble is
I don't understand the vt options very well; their explanations in the
documentation are very brief.

Or should I just use VGA consoles?
